A Tester's Story

I've been working in compliance for 18 years. PAT testing, fire safety, water hygiene, COSHH — you name it, I've recorded it on a clipboard, in a spreadsheet, or with software that cost a fortune and still didn't work properly on site.

I've walked into offices with 300 appliances to test, armed with a PAT tester and a paper form. I've stood in plant rooms logging water temperatures by hand. I've argued with facilities managers over whether a pass certificate was "official" enough — because it was printed from Excel.

So I built what I always wished I had. Arnold PAT Testing started as a tool just for me. The logic follows the IET Code of Practice 5th Edition exactly. The certificates look professional. It works offline. It saves every result.

Then other engineers started asking to use it. Then facilities managers. Then landlords. That's when I realised this wasn't just a tool for me — it was a tool for everyone doing compliance work in the UK who deserves better software.

Is Arnold PAT Testing free to try?+

You can download and explore the app for free. The subscription at £4.99/year unlocks unlimited tests, certificates and clients. That works out to less than 10p per day — less than a cup of tea per month.

Does it work without internet on site?+

Yes — 100% offline-first. All data is stored locally on your iPhone. If you have connectivity, it silently syncs to the cloud in the background. You'll never lose a test record.

Is it legally compliant with UK standards?+

Arnold PAT Testing is built around BS 1363, the IET Code of Practice 5th Edition (2020) and the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989. Pass/fail limits, earth continuity, insulation resistance and polarity checks all follow IET CoP guidance. Results are manually entered by the competent person — the app records and certifies those results.

Can I use this for commercial clients?+

Absolutely. The app is designed for small-to-medium businesses, sole traders, facilities managers and landlords. You can manage multiple clients, multiple sites and multiple jobs — all included in the £4.99/year subscription.

What devices does it work on?+

Currently available on iPhone (iOS 17+). iPad support is included. Android and a web dashboard are on the roadmap.
